Up NEPA

Know when light comes, and what it costs

Up NEPA keeps a log of when the power comes and goes, and shows whether your supply matches what your tariff band promises. It also tracks your generator or inverter, helps you report outages to your DisCo, and can tell you when light comes on your street.

What it does

Everything in Up NEPA.

1Light from your charger

Leave the phone on a wall charger at home and Up NEPA logs the moment the charger comes alive or goes dead while the phone lies still.

2Tap to log

Tap Light came or Light went yourself, and see every change in your history.

3Check your tariff band

Compares your hours of supply with NERC's promise for bands A to E (20, 16, 12, 8 and 4 hours a day).

4Generator and inverter log

Start and stop your generator, log fuel, and get reminders for oil changes and inverter battery checks.

5Outage reports made easy

Prefills a report with your meter number, area and how long the light has been off, ready to send to your DisCo by email, WhatsApp, text or phone, or to escalate to NERC.

6Street light map

If you choose to share, see which streets around you have light and get a "Light has come" alert.

7Solar payback estimate

Log your fuel spend to see roughly how many months a solar and battery system would take to pay for itself.

8Smart about fake signals

Ignores computer USB, wireless pads and power banks, and lets you mark inverter charging so it isn't mistaken for NEPA.

Coming soon: Buying prepaid electricity tokens and installer quotes are marked "Coming soon". Battery's "Turn on NEPA mode when the light goes" link is not yet sent by Up NEPA.

How it works

Up and running in three steps.

  1. Choose your DisCo and tariff band, and set your home area.
  2. Leave your phone on a wall charger at home, or tap when the light changes.
  3. Check Now and History, and tap Report outage when the light is off.
Your privacy

Your log, fuel, generator, meter and account numbers stay on the phone; the app does use the internet, but only if you turn on sharing does it send "light on" or "light off" for the roughly 250 m square around your home, under a random ID, never your exact position, number or name.

FAQ

Up NEPA questions.

01How does it know the light has come?

It watches for a wall charger coming alive or going dead while the phone is lying still. A phone that was being handled is treated as a person plugging or unplugging it.

02Will my generator confuse it?

Not if you tell it. Start your generator in the Backup tab, or turn on "Charges from an inverter", and those changes aren't counted as NEPA.

03Does it send my reports for me?

No. It fills in the message, and you choose to send it through email, WhatsApp, text or a call.

04Who can see my street on the map?

A street only shows when two or more phones agree, and you're told light has come only when several do.
