Go-Slow

Beat the traffic before you leave

Go-Slow is a road map built for Nigerian traffic, with live reports from drivers about go-slows, floods, accidents and checkpoints. It finds a way round problems, reads hazards aloud while you drive, and checks your usual commute before you set off.

What it does

Everything in Go-Slow.

1Live road reports

See flooding, accidents, heavy traffic, broken-down trucks, potholes, road works, security stops, protests and unsafe areas reported by drivers.

2Report in one tap

Tap what you see on the road, or confirm whether an earlier report is still there so old ones fade away.

3Voice reports

Say what you see in English or Pidgin; speech is recognised on the phone after a one-time 40 MB download.

4Directions round problems

Get a route that avoids reported trouble, with a new route found if things change on the way.

5Spoken alerts

Hazards ahead and turns are read aloud while you are being guided.

6Commute alerts

Save a usual trip and Go-Slow checks it in the hour before you leave, telling you if it is blocked or slow.

7Places for drivers

Fuel stations, mechanics, towing and vulcanizers on the map, with sponsored places clearly labelled.

8Data you can see

A monthly count of everything Go-Slow sent and received, plus a Wi-Fi-only upload option.

Coming soon: Go-Slow for fleets (route monitoring and reports for businesses with drivers) is marked "Coming soon".

How it works

Up and running in three steps.

  1. Open the map to see what drivers are reporting around you.
  2. Search for where you're going and follow the route.
  3. Tap to report what you see, or save your commute for early warnings.
Your privacy

Go-Slow uses the internet for maps, reports and directions; commutes stay on the phone, voice is recognised on the phone, and anonymous speed sharing is off until you turn it on, with each trip given a new random ID and the first and last 300 m removed.

FAQ

Go-Slow questions.

01Does it record my voice?

Voice reports are recognised on the phone itself. No audio leaves it.

02Do I need an account?

No. Shared speeds and commute checks aren't linked to an account.

03Do sponsored places affect my route?

No. Sponsored places pay to appear on the map, but roads and routes are never ranked by sponsorship.

04How does it check my commute without push messages?

Go-Slow wakes itself briefly in the hour before each saved commute to check the road.
